SAN LORENZO, Alameda County — San Lorenzo is an unincorporated community, not a separate incorporated city, which affects who maintains local streets and handles many neighborhood concerns.
The county’s Road Conditions and Maintenance guide explicitly lists San Lorenzo among Alameda County’s unincorporated areas. The Public Works Agency says it maintains 480 centerline miles of roadway and provides signal and streetlight maintenance across several unincorporated communities.
Where should residents report a problem?
County staff can help determine whether potholes, missing traffic signs, storm drains or streetlights fall under county responsibility. Because state highways and certain privately maintained facilities may have other operators, a correct road location is essential to directing a complaint.
County maintenance contacts include 510-670-5500 for West County. For a life-threatening emergency, call 911, not a routine road-service line.
Why San Lorenzo’s name matters
Alameda County explains that many unincorporated neighborhoods have historically been described using neighboring city names. It encourages use of actual community names, including San Lorenzo, Ashland and Cherryland, to distinguish them from incorporated San Leandro and Hayward.
